My mentor Dr. Terry Jernigan was busy in meetings and teaching classes today. So to get some background research I asked her son Christian about her and read her bio online. She grew up in Alabama and lived there until she went to college. She went to University of Texas, Austin for two years and then followed a boyfriend to UC Irvine. She received her PhD from UCLA in 1979 and did an internship at the Palo Alto VA Medical Center. She has worked at UCSD since 1984. She teaches classes at UCSD and is the director of a lab there and has another lab off campus. She gets the opportunity to travel all around the world through her job.
